Katherine Growdon

Katherine Growdon, mezzo-soprano, has in recent years gained critical acclaim for her unique timbre, presence, and expressivity. The New York Times praised her performance as Dido and the Sorceress with the Mark Morris Dance Group as “incisively authoritative.” She has been described as a “fiery singing actress” and as possessing a “rich, caramel tone” (San Francisco Classical Voice). Ms. Growdon is the recipient of fellowships to the Tanglewood Music Center, where she made her Boston Pops début as Charlotte Malcolm in A Little Night Music, the Carmel Bach Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival. In addition to past seasons with the San Francisco Bach Choir, she has been a featured soloist with the Mark Morris Dance Group, Emmanuel Music, the Northwest Bach Festival, and the American Bach Soloists. Her upcoming 2011–2012 season includes a performance of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella with Emmanuel Music, and J.C. Bach’s alto cantata Ach, das ich Wasser g’nug hätte with the Northwest Bach Festival.
